The R&D centre that the oil company TOTAL has in Pau (PERL-Lacq) serves its upstream subsidiaries located throughout the world, to face complex and unusual situations.

One of the fields of research is for the characterization, monitoring and remediation in difficult conditions of aquifers contaminated by hydrocarbons. Amphos21 participates in the development and testing of laboratory scale and pilot plant techniques through expert advice and specialized numerical modelling. Commercial or pilot equipment are examined and tested thoroughly by a fully monitored aquifer model. Multiphysical numerical models at millimetre scale reproduce the processes and the results of the observations.

The next step is the decametric scale upscaling in the pilot plot that they have in the alluvial aquifer of the Pau river. The next step will be the preparation of equipment for real locations of the oil company.
